The Ravenswood Neighbors Association (RNA) is an all-volunteer, non-political, resident-driven organization that seeks to promote the well-being, safety, vitality, and identity of our community by fostering and encouraging stronger relationships between residents, local businesses, and other neighborhood organizations; sharing news and information throughout our network; and promoting local initiatives and programs.
We proudly represent the Ravenswood neighborhood in Chicago bounded by Winnemac, Ashland, Montrose, and Damen Avenues.
CURRENT ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBERS

Michael Sewall
President
Michael moved to Ravenswood in 2018 and lives in a 3-flat on Wolcott with his wife, Rae, children Charlotte and Sam, and cat, Irving. He’s long been active in the community, having worked with the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and the 47th Ward service office, and now works as a program coordinator at Metra.
He’s also a garden leader with Montrose Metra Community Gardens and serves as a community representative on McPherson Elementary’s Local School Council. When he’s not volunteering or spending time with his kids, Michael enjoys bicycling, watching basketball, updating his Letterboxd account, and supporting the many amazing local businesses in Ravenswood!

Andrew Smerczak-Zorza
Greening Chair
Andy has been a part of the Ravenswood neighborhood for nearly 10 years. He is committed to helping neighbors become better connected and spotlighting local businesses and institutions. Andy is the chair of the Greening Committee which has helped numerous neighbors and businesses start Illinois native flower gardens in our parkways and on street corners. He works in executive search with a leading global firm, helping companies find top Human Resources talent.

Nara Roth
Director
Nara is a longtime resident of Ravenswood and Lincoln Square and has watched both neighborhoods transform into a vibrant neighborhood community filled with gorgeous tree-lined streets and architecture, art and garden initiatives, local restaurant and distilleries, unique shops, street fests and farmers markets. She is a huge advocate for supporting local businesses and she’s also a creative fundraising parent at McPherson Elementary.
When she’s not project managing or working on creative investments, you’ll find her hanging out at local cafes enjoying lattes, meeting up with fellow neighbors and moms for coffee or bagels, gardening outside her home, interior designing, photographing, running or playing tennis. But you’ll also find her exploring the world with her son Max!

Lanie Rivas
Community Engagement Chair
Lanie came to RNA as one of the administrators of the Ravenswood Free Box Facebook group and has owned a home on Sunnyside Avenue since February 2017. Lanie leads RNA’s Community Engagement efforts and Block Captain Initiative.
You’ve seen her house featured at Ravenswood Light Up Nights, Halloween and Freebox events, featuring live music on the porch!
Originally from the Philippines, she has easily adapted the community spirit of her culture with an eye on neighborhood engagement. She lives with her husband, mother-in-law, and daughter who attends a neighborhood school. By day she works in property management of a major Michigan avenue business high-rise focused specifically on tenant services and relations. Lanie loves traveling to cultural destinations around the world and gardening in her beautiful home garden.

Melanie Huntington Weeks
Events Chair
Melanie has been a Ravenswood resident for over 19 years, and with her husband and daughter, has been lovingly restoring their 128-year-old historic Ravenswood home since 2004.
Melanie is from New York, and has lived in Washington DC, London (England), several Midwestern states, and has called Chicago home for almost 20 years. She instantly fell in love with this great city, the people in it, and the incredible Ravenswood neighborhood. She has been thrilled to give back to the Ravenswood community by serving on the RNA Advisory Council since 2023.
Melanie previously served with the Chase Park Advisory Council and the Chase Park Playground Committee, and has worked at Lillstreet Art Center’s not-for-profit division, ArtReach, as a teaching artist in Chicago schools and local community centers. After spending years as a dedicated elementary school volunteer and a Science Olympiad coach, and as a recent empty nester, Melanie has been enjoying doing ceramics, stained glass, gardening, and birding in Chicago.

Winifred Curran
Planning & Development Chair
Winifred lives in Ravenswood with her twin daughters and two dogs. Originally from Brooklyn, she has now lived in Chicago for over 20 years, the last 12 in Ravenswood. She is a professor of Geography at DePaul, where she teaches classes on urban geography and planning and previously served on the zoning advisory council for the 47th Ward.

Morgan Kingsland
Director
Morgan moved to Ravenswood in early 2024 with her dog, Donkey, and was quickly welcomed by an engaged, enthusiastic community of neighbors and new friends. As a part of RNA, she aims to encourage building such a community among as many neighbors as possible.
Morgan’s day job is in process improvement and project management for a local industrial supply company. She has also spent many years managing events, including the Christkindlmarket Chicago and the PurpleStride Chicago 5k, and aims to support RNA’s community-building events with all of that event and process improvement knowledge.
In her spare time, you can find her advocating for public transit and bike access, riding and fixing her bike, walking with Donkey, or doing projects on her new (old – 1970s!) sailboat at Montrose Harbor.

David Sokol
Planning & Development Co-Chair
David joined the Ravenswood community in 2021 and quickly fell for its vibrant local businesses and friendly neighbors. As a member of RNA and a co-chair of the Planning and Development Committee, David is dedicated to giving back to the neighborhood he loves. He strives to represent the voices of RNA members and neighbors, ensuring their input is heard on new construction and development projects.
During the week, David spends his time at a real estate investment firm. In his free time, you might spot him filling his growler at a local brewery, cruising the streets on his trusty cargo bike, or tending to his growing native garden.

Tim Henney
Director
Tim is a life-long Chicagoan and has lived in Ravenswood for over 17 years.
Before then, he was president of the community organization in his old neighborhood, Irving Park, for several years and was happy to find a neighborhood organization to become involved in, the Ravenswood Neighbors Association, a group that is making a great effort to involve the community and make it stronger for all.
He is looking forward to working with the organization, whether it’s in RNAs native gardens, community events, fundraisers and coffee get-togethers with our elected officials. Tim runs the graphics department for a not-for-profit.
