This committee’s goal is to connect neighbors and develop programs that will ensure the overall wellbeing of the neighborhood, and to make sure that the voice of the neighborhood is heard.

FIRST FRIDAYS FOOD DRIVE

The Ravenswood Neighbors Association (RNA) is a proud supporter of Ravenswood Community Services (RCS), which provides the basics of food and supplies to our neighbors, respecting the dignity of all and creating community throughout Ravenswood and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Amid massive federal budget cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program, RCS is preparing for an increase in families needing support after already facing a growing demand. To further support RCS during these unprecedented times, RNA is launching a First Fridays Food Drive specifically to support RCS’ After School Pantry program, which provides food distribution at three schools during dismissal. The food distributed through this program is not subsidized by USDA or the Greater Chicago Food Depository, so we can make the biggest impact by offsetting program costs.

We are seeking neighbors who can serve as food drop-off locations throughout the community. SIGN UP HERE!

Stay tuned for details of our first collection drive running September 5-11.

WEEKLY WALKING GROUP

The Ravenswood Neighbors Association started a weekly walking group at 12pm (noon) every Friday, meeting  at Montrose/Ravenswood (at the stone seating area on the north side of Montrose west of the Metra train tracks).

Whether you work from home and need a chance to stretch your legs and get fresh air or just happen to be around during the day and want to meet neighbors, you’re invited to join us. Sign up here for updates.

BLOCK CAPTAIN PROGRAM

RNA’s Block Captain program, launched in 2023, aims to strengthen connections among neighbors, find ways we can support each other, and escalate public safety and quality of life concerns to local leaders. Block Captains are expected to develop a contact list of neighbors on their block, organize occasional meetups among neighbors, and serve as eyes on the street to help find solutions to hyper-local issues. They also help recruit RNA members and promote RNA events and programs to neighbors on their blocks.

RNA Block Captain Community Health and Safety Guide

RNA developed this guide so block captains can be aware of public safety and quality of life issues in the neighborhood and share information with neighbors about how they can interact with police and other public safety stakeholders, and what they can do to stay safe.
